Tonight’s Tri101 group workout was a long bike ride followed by a 1 mile run/walk whatever.
We met at a park and rode to the Army base (Redstone Arsenal). After going through the gate, we rode for 20 minutes, turned around and came back all the way to the park. It was my longest ride so far. Previously I had done 12.18 miles in in 52:39 (13.9 mph average).
Tonight I did 14.45 miles in 1:01:15, 14.2 mph average.
I still just have flat pedals, I really need clipless pedals or at least toe straps.
I was good until about mile 12 and then everything started hurting. Back, shoulders, butt, and I was glad to be off the bike when it was done.
I walked the 1 mile. I didn’t run at all, my legs were shredded. I wasn’t alone in the walking. One of the coaches told me that they had never taken a Tri101 group on a ride this long.
I ended up as the last person finishing the walk. I walked back with one of the coaches, Rick, and I felt bad being last. Then when I got back to the parking lot I learned at least 2 people who finished the bike behind me didn’t even attempt the run. Maybe more. So I was last, but at least I started.
