Claire offered to give me some help in getting faster. Girl is fast, so of course I accepted. I gave her my last 5k time (38 minutes) and she gave me a few workouts.
Tonight was the first one: speed work.
- 5 minute warmup
- 3 x 1:30 fast (3:30 recover interval)
- 5 minute cooldown
and walked out the door.
I walked the recovery, warm up and cool down intervals. Other than my shorts almost falling down, it was fun. I remember thinking “if they fall down, they fall down. I’ll stop if that happens, but otherwise keep running.”
I didn’t look at my Garmin during the run. I find the instant pace isn’t always accurate so I just ran to what I thought was an 8 on the RPE scale.
Apparently my 8 is a 7:56/8:33/8:44 minute/mile pace over the time period. (Ok I might have been pushing a hard 9 at the end of those intervals)

Everything feels good, but my hamstrings feel… just different. They’ve never felt anything before, my stride was different must be using different muscles.
